Description
Yahong Gallery attractively displays the original batik paintings of Chuah Thean Teng. His works are avidly sought by both private collectors and museums throughout the world. Teng enjoys notability as the father and master of batik painting. He has transformed the ancient craft of batik into a fine art form. In addition, three of Teng's sons are fine artists working in batik painting as well as several other mediums. Although Teng's paintings occupy a prominent position in the gallery, Yahong also displays works of other notable artists in watercolour, Chinese ink and oil. Yahong's engaging display of vivid art work will tempt the casual buyer as well as the serious collector. Yahong Art Gallery is the largest arts and crafts centre in Penang. Displaying works by Malaysian and Asian artists, it is divided into four sections: the Art Gallery, Handicrafts, Batik and Jewellery & Antiques centres. It is best known for housing the artworks of Chuah Thean Teng. Teng is billed at the father of modern batik printing: the upper levels of Yahong Art Gallery prominently display his original works plus those of his sons, Chuah Seow Keng and Chuah Siew Teng.

Mural art trail crosses city

IPOH: PERAK has unveiled the “Ipoh Mural Art” trail map which showcases the artworks in seven locations in the city here. This two hour-long trail will cover places from Jalan Tun Sambanthan to Jalan Bandar Timah-Jalan Panglima-Jalan Bijeh Timah-Jalan Market and Jalan Sultan Iskandar, before ending at Jalan Masjid. Most of the mural arts are drawn by local artists Eric Lai, Bryan Tan, Chris Chow and Mohd Najib Zainudin. Even the famed Ernest Zacharevic from Lithuania had contributed his efforts in creating a mural piece for Ipoh.
